Fragments of the old city remain, and you can see the historic cathedral of St. Pauls.
The Old Town was utterly destroyed like the rest of Warsaw in the closing ohases in the Second World War. Some of the battles of the Uprising took place here.
It has many shops and restaurants/ cafes (which one of the includes Starbucks).
In the middle of Old Town Square is the famous Old Town Market Square where there are many stores and restuarnats that you could go to. In the middle of the market square there was once a Warsaw city town hall which is now replaced by the symbol of Warsaw, the Warsaw Mermaid.
The Castle square is located directly across from the Royal Castle. This is wheremost people begin their walk through Old Town. In the middle of the square there is a bronze statue, the Zygmunt Statue, which shows King Zygmunt III who was responsible for making Warsaw the capital of Poland.
The Barbican was built in 1548, and it is directly situated where the Old divides into the New Town. It served as an access gate for Old Town and is combined into the Warsaw City Wall which surrounds Old Town.
